I just finished watching the premier of a new show John from Cincinnati on HBO. I don’t have HBO so I downloaded it because I’d heard some good things about it. I’ll post a bit more after a few more episodes but here’s what I liked tonight. The main character John didn’t have any original dialogue in 55 minutes. All he did was repeat what all the other characters said to him. What intrigued me was the interaction between him and the family. A screwed up family for sure. The Yosts of Imperial beach. The last strip of land before you hit Tijuana. A misfit family of surfers with a son hooked on drugs and his son being raised by the grandparents. John’s interaction with them is classic so far. The great/weird part of the first episode is the dad after meeting John levitates about 5 inches off the ground by his car when changing out of his wetsuit.

Alright, so I was intruiged by the post and also decided to watch episode one on HBO’s website. I haven’t finished it yet, but let me tell you my top 5 reasons that this show might be kick-butt:
5. Intro song is by Joe Strummer (the Clash front-man)
4. Takes place in The Diego, also close to the Mexico
3. Ed O’niell (one of the best T.V. actors ever)
2. Seems to spend much time revolving around surf-culture (which could be a curse too- hollywood’s never done a good job of putting surf culture on screen), and even employs former pro-surfers.
1. Luke Perry (I’m getting Bev Hills High flashbacks already- and it’s good)

wasn’t sure after the first show…but by the second i was hooked…
