On Monday I’m traveling to Cambodia for a week of ministry. I’m helping lead a team of 30 college students from Berkley. It’s going to be a busy week as we are both touring the country and serving in a village. One of the placest I’m stoked to see is Angkor Wat which are some of the largest temples in the world. Someone recently told me that of all the palces they’ve vistited in Asia it was by far the most impressive. We’re also touring the The Killing Fields which should be a very emotional place to visit.
I’m pretty stoked for this trip because I get to hang out with my friend Phil from YWAM Seattle . Phil and I have been friends for a bunch of years and I’m pretty stoked to be going overseas with him.
One of the main reasons I’m stoked about this trip is that I will be doing something in ministry that I’m not actually in charge of. After being a pastor for 10 years and having very busy ministry schedules its nice to be under someone elses leadership. I’m expecting to be stretched to see/do ministry in new ways. Already in the preparation I have been impressed. One of the other leaders of the trip Wade has put together a series of 4 podcasts that are supposed to be downloaded to an ipod and played in specific locations in the country where we are doing ministry. Fore example at the temples there is a podcast to listen to that tells you about the religions of Cambodia and what specifically to pray for. It’s sort of like a museum tour that you can plug yourself into and connect with it in a different way.
I’m going to miss my family while I’m away on this trip. It’s the last trip of 2006 that I’m away from home and I’m glad for that. Things are happening quickly at Castle Rood. Today I took Soren outside to learn to ride his bike without training wheels. I took the wheels off and away he went right away without falling. Pretty impressive and pretty scary that he was that good that quick. I don’t like being away because I will miss stuff like that……
